CHAPTER SIX#
Citizenship#
Article 31#
Any person with both or one parent of Ethiopian citizenship is an Ethiopian.
Particulars relating to citizenship shall be determined by law.
The conditions and procedures for the acquisition of Ethiopian citizenship by citizens of other countries and stateless persons shall be determined by law.
Article 32#
The state shall protect the rights and interests of Ethiopians abroad.
No Ethiopian may be extradited.
Article 33#
The People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia shall grant asylum to foreigners persecuted for their struggle in national liberation and anti-racist movements and for the cause of peace and democracy.
Article 34#
Citizens of other countries and stateless persons within the territory of the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia shall have freedoms, rights and duties determined by law.
The state may not extradite a citizen of another country or a stateless person except as stipulated by international agreement.
